Chagrin: noun; distress or embarrassment at having failed or been humuliated

How many times have you come across the expression, “Much to his/her/my chagrin…”? If you are a fan of period literature (or did your assigned readings in high school English), you would have come across this more than once. While you likely figured out more or less what it means, chances are you still aren’t 100% sure what exactly it means. Well, the answer is quite simple: it’s that awkward feeling you get when you have failed miserably at something and been caught out.
